MG shares first images of MGS5 EV ahead of spring launch
MG has shared the first details of its next all-electric model – the MGS5 EV.
The all-new electric SUV will arrive in the UK in spring 2025 and, MG says, will underline its commitment to high-value electric cars.
The MGS5 EV will replace the outgoing MG ZS EV, which has been on sale since 2019 and helped cement MG’s place as among the cheapest EV brands on the market.
The MGS5 EV will be built on the same MSP platform as the MG4 hatchback. MG hasn’t given any technical details but the MG4 offers a choice of 49kWh or 64kWh batteries paired with a choice of three rear-mounted motors. These provide between 168bhp and 242bhp. The hatchback has a maximum range of 323 miles. If the MGS5 EV does use the same powertrain, we can expect slight dip in range due to its larger size and weight.
The MG4 is also available with all-wheel-drive, which might suit the SUV nature of the MGS5. However, whether it would get the full 429bhp offered by the XPower specification remains to be seen.
MG says the new model will showcase a new cabin appearance with advanced and premium features unique to the new model. This would bring a welcome upgrade over the current MG interior offering, which is a weak point of the range.
David Allison, head of product and planning for MG Motor UK, commented: “The MGS5 EV has all the credentials to impress, a generously equipped and spacious SUV but with the all-electric performance that MG customers enjoy so much. In terms of cabin ambience and technology this model will offer a new and greatly enhanced MG experience.”
More details of the MGS5 EV will be revealed in the coming weeks.
