GWM launches £3,750 ‘Green Grant’ discount for Ora 03 buyers
GWM UK has announced a £3,750 ‘Green Grant’ discount for retail customers wanting to buy one of its all-electric Ora 03 superminis.
GWM’s decision to offer the discount came after the UK Government’s recently-announced EV Grant failed to announce whether Chinese cars will be eligible. To qualify for the discount, the EV’s manufacturers will also need to have signed up to the Science Based Targets Initiative.
The government’s discount on new EVs costing less than £37,000 will be either £3,750 or £1,500 depending on the cleanliness of the energy grid where the EVs and their batteries are manufactured.
The government has yet to publish the list of carmakers that meet the criteria. As such, several brands from China including Leapmotor, MG, and now GWM has sought to get the jump on the government.
When the £3,750 GWM Green Grant discount is applied to its entry level Ora 03 Pure, its price is reduced to £21,245. The Ora 03 Pure has a 48kwh battery delivering a range of up to 193 miles. Well-equipped, it also gets a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android, a 360-degree camera, plus wireless phone charging.
In terms of driver assists, even in base spec, the Ora 03 gets intelligent cruise control, along with a suite of safety systems.
The mid-rung Ora O3 Pro comes with a larger 63kWh battery and a range of up to 260 miles. Building on the already-generous equipment levels found on Pure model, the Pro gets faux leather upholstery, plus auto parking and a gesture-powered tailgate. Initially priced from £28,995, the £3,750 discount reduces its purchasing cost to £25,245.
Finally, the Green Grant discount sees the top-tier GWM 03 GT have its £32,995 asking price slashed to £29,295. While powered by the same battery as the Pro model and delivering the same range, the GWM 03 GT comes with a sportier body kit, launch control, heated and ventilated front seats, and an electric sunroof.
The Green Grant can also be used towards a PCP deposit, with 0% also available.
Regarding the discount, GWM’s UK managing director, Toby Marshall said: “We don’t believe our customers should have to wait for the government to decide which vehicles qualify for the EV grant.
“So, we’ve taken matters into our own hands and matched the £3,750 saving, available to everyone, right now, on our ORA 03 range. With immediate availability, competitive finance, and exceptional value, there has never been a better time to go electric with GWM ORA.”
