Smart #5 Brabus is coming with 637bhp

Smart has confirmed that its Smart #5 SUV range will include a performance-focused Brabus edition when it arrives later this year.

The range-topping variant will make the Smart #5 the largest and most powerful car Smart has built so far, and is set to compete with hot EVs such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and potentially the Porsche Macan Electric.

With a 637bhp all-wheel-drive powertrain, the Smart #5 Brabus is around 60bhp more powerful than the regular #5, itself a fairly potent car. With launch control activated, Smart says this allows the #5 Brabus to sprint from 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds.

To enhance the feeling of performance the range-topping model includes synthesised engine sounds, although there’s no simulated transmission as there is in other performance EVs such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.

As well as being fast off the mark, the #5 Brabus is one of the world’s fastest-charging EVs courtesy of its 800V architecture. Using 400kW DC charging, the #5’s 100kWh battery can be charged from 10-80% in just 18 minutes. Fully charged, it should return 335 miles of range.

The #5 Brabus features a bespoke body kit and alloys

Helping the Smart #5 Brabus stand out from the rest of the range are 21-inch ‘Monoblock Z’ wheels, red brake calipers, and gloss black and red extended body trim bearing the Brabus badge. Inside, the heated and ventilated front and rear seats are finished in a unique microfibre fabric featuring Dinamica accents. There’s also a microfibre headliner, Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with illuminated Brabus badge and sports pedals. The Brabus edition also benefits from a panoramic sunroof, 13-inch OLED displays for the driver and front passenger and a 20-speaker Sennheiser ‘Signature Sound System’.

Dirk Adelmann, CEO of Smart Europe, commented: “The Smart #5 Brabus is the new flagship of our still young all-electric product portfolio. This vehicle embodies our vision of electric performance and redefines what customers can expect from an electric SUV with powerful dynamics, top connectivity features and the finest interior craftsmanship for an unmatched driving experience. ”

The #5 Brabus will go on sale in the UK towards the end of 2025

The Smart #5 Brabus completes the Brabus line up of Smart models, which also includes the #1 and #3.

Smart’s relationship with Brabus goes back to the early 2000s when the renowned Mercedes tuning house collaborated with Smart to develop the quirky Smart Roadster Brabus, with a whopping 99bhp from its 700cc rear-mounted engine.

UK orders for the Smart #5 Brabus will open in Q4 of 2025.
