Revealed: The UK’s most EV-friendly family attractions

The UK’s best visitor attractions for EV drivers have been ranked in a new list celebrating some of the country’s best family days out.

With the summer holidays in full swing and parents looking for ways to keep kids entertained, new research by Vauxhall has identified the most EV-friendly attractions, with Legoland Windsor taking top spot.

The famous brick-themed resort was found to offer the best balance of accessibility and charger availability, with 34 on-site devices and more than 60 fast or rapid chargers within five miles.

To celebrate, Vauxhall and Legoland Windsor have teamed up to offer one family a free overnight stay, fast-pass access to the park and a week-long loan of a Vauxhall Grandland EV.

The Vauxhall research looked at on-site charging provision, the number of ‘fast’ chargers (7-49kW) within a one-mile radius, and the number of rapid (50kW+) chargers within five miles. It also took into account how many of the 15 most populous cities in the UK were within a 325-mile distance from the attraction. That distance – conveniently – being the WLTP range of the Vauxhall Grandland.

Alongside Legoland Windsor, zoos, waxworks and historical tours made it onto the top-eight list.

The Legoland resort is located just two miles from Windsor town centre and is accessible on a single charge from 12 of the UK’s most populated cities. It was found to be the most convenient family attraction for EV drivers based on its 34 fast charge points on-site, 19 within a one-mile radius and 45 rapid chargers within five miles.

In second place is Chester Zoo in Cheshire, accessible on a 325-mile charge from all 15 of the UK’s most populous cities. It boasts 26 fast charge-points on-site and a further 40 rapid charge points within a five-mile radius.

Taking the third ranking is Madame Tussauds London. Like Legoland, it is within 325 miles of 12 of the biggest UK cities. And thanks to its location in the nation’s capital, there are 172 fast charge points in a one-mile radius, and 304 rapid charge points in a five-mile radius, meaning visitors should never struggle to find a charge.

Steve Catlin, managing director, Vauxhall, said: “As the summer holidays commence, we know many families will be taking to the road for some fun days out, and we understand that having the peace of mind about where to re-charge their electric vehicle is a crucial part of the journey. Our research provides an easy guide of family friendly attractions across the country for EV drivers to choose from, all within the range of the New Grandland Electric from the majority of the UK’s biggest cities.”
