MG IM5 and IM6 make European debuts at 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed

The MG IM5 fastback and its IM6 SUV sibling have made their European debuts at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

IM – standing for ‘Intelligent Mobility’ – was announced at the 2024 Geneva International Motor Show, and is MG’s premium brand targeting the likes of EV makers such as Tesla, Polestar, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi.

The brand’s IM5 and IM6 have since been available in MG’s domestic market of China and in Australia, and size-wise line up against the likes of the Mercedes EQE and BMW iX respectively. Despite a more premium position than the rest of the MG offering, the new models are expected to significantly undercut such rivals. MG told EV Powered that prices would start at less than the current Cyberster Trophy, which is priced from £54,995.

To distinguish it from the regular MG brand, IM cars are fitted with their own futuristic logos inside and out, while subtle ‘MG Motor’ will remain on the tailgate. Both cars are built on an all-new 800V platform, which is different to the rest of the MG EV range. The IM5 and IM6 also benefit from improved 75kWh and 100kWh batteries affording them better range, faster charging, and more power.

With the 100kWh option and a dual-motor configuration, the MG IM5 is said to boast a 0-62mph time of less than 3.5 seconds.

Both the MG IM5 and IM6 share the same platform, running gear and 2.9 metre wheelbase, and have a more swoopy, aerodynamic-driven appearance than other models in the current MG line-up. The IM5 has a saloon-like appearance but hatchback-style tailgate, while beneath now-familiar coupe-SUV lines, the IM6 offers up to 665 litres of boot space.

Inside, both cars are visually similar and appear to be fitted and finished to a high standard. A huge 23-inch screen dominates proceedings to provide instrument and infotainment data, with a centrally-mounted, Porsche Taycan-style 10-inch screen in the centre console.

MG told EV Powered that the IM5 and IM6 will adopt a ‘technology-first’ approach. On the Australian market, both cars’ on-board systems are underpinned by the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip. The Australian IM5 and IM6 also benefit from one-touch park, one-touch kerbside parking, one-touch pull out, and one-touch reverse, plus rainy night mode, which uses AI to make driving easier in nightime wet conditions.

MG will also be taking orders from the IM5 and IM6 as of July 2025 and EV Powered will bring more details on price and specification as soon as we have them.
