ChargePoint launches Flex Plus home charger to simplify fleet payments

ChargePoint has unveiled its new Flex Plus home charger, which allows fleets to automatically reimburse their EV drivers who charge at home.

The Flex Plus was designed to address the complicated issue of paying back employees for charging work vehicles at home, and it is the first charger to be built on ChargePoint’s new AC charging architecture, providing rapid home charging speeds of up to 19.2kW, dynamic charging and vehicle-to-grid capabilities.

The charger’s real-time dynamic load feature means it automatically accelerates EV charging speeds when power is not needed elsewhere at home. This means fast charging is enabled without the cost of upgrading the building’s electrical architecture.

Flex Plus’ in-built meter and software also allows fleet managers to immediately reimburse employees for their charging, oversee charger installation, and carry out consolidated VAT invoicing for international fleets. Meanwhile, a centralised dashboard also allows them to add new drivers, implement charging rules and oversee fleet-wide activity.

“Fleet managers and company car drivers require a seamless experience to fully embrace their electric vehicles,” said Hossein Kazemi, the chief technical officer for hardware at ChargePoint. “The new Flex Plus charger pairs with ChargePoint’s Driver Management Solution to automatically reimburse company car drivers for home charging, making it easy for drivers and fleet managers to go electric.”

As well as its reimbursement feature, the Flex Plus charger debuts a new backplate mounting system that means the owner can take the device with them in the event of moving house, rather than leaving the valuable hardward behind.

The Flex Plus system addresses the biggest issue that car fleets face in the United Kingdom. A recent study showed that charging is the largest barrier to electrification, with 41% of fleets stating that there are not enough public charging points, and 39% claiming that there is a lack of charging at employees’ homes. It also tackles the problem of a lack of charging at the workplace.
