Mercedes-Benz to blitz market with 15 new EVs by 2027
Mercedes is poised to reveal 15 new or updated EVs by 2027, according to a document prepared for the brand’s investors and shareholders.
These all-electric models are in addition to the recently-introduced CLA saloon and CLA shooting brake. The first car in the new EV line-up is likely to be the Mercedes GLC SUV, which will make its public debut at the Munich motor show this September.
Described by the Stuttgart carmaker as “the biggest product launch programme” in its history, the upcoming EV range will be divided into three tiers. Kicking off things are the ‘Entry’ cars, including two models set to arrive as early as next year. Mercedes has not confirmed what they are, but they are expected to be revamped version of the GLA and GLB crossovers.
The mid-tier “Core” range is next, and is set to debut one model next year and another in 2027. The first is touted to be the new GLC SUV and an all-electric version of the C-Class saloon. The following year, an estate version of the latter is set to join the fold.
Finally, the ‘Top-End’ category includes five models set to arrive in 2026, with another five the next. These are expected to be refreshed versions of the EQE and EQS saloons, plus their SUV counterparts. The Volvo EM90-rivalling, VLE luxury minivan is expected to be part of Mercedes’ 2027 EV launches, along with a road-going version of the the recently-unveiled AMG GT XX super saloon.
Following its switch to electrification, Mercedes has endured a difficult time with criticism of its all-electric offerings ranging from quality control issues to styling. Along with the brand’s recent announcement that its EVs will return to a more traditional-yet-contemporary design language beginning with the GLC, the 15-model blitz marks a fresh chapter for Mercedes’ fully-electric efforts.
