Jaecoo E5 price revealed: 248-mile EV3 rival starts at £27,505

Jaecoo has confirmed pricing and specification for its first all-electric model – the E5 – as it looks to enter the competitive compact electric SUV market.

Priced from £27,505, the Jaecoo E5 is set to offer Kia EV3 space for Renault 4 money, with seating for five and a 480-litre boot.

A twin car to the petrol-powered Jaecoo 5 – the smaller of the brand’s two SUVs – the E5 is visually almost identical, with just a smoothed-off grille area to distinguish it. It uses a 61.1kWh battery for up to 248 miles of range. That is paired with a 204bhp front-mounted motor that should get the E5 from 0-62mph in 7.7 seconds. Charging is limited to a rather disappointing 80kW, meaning a 30-80% top-up will take around 27 minutes, but the E5 does feature vehicle-to-load as standard.

The Jaecoo E5 comes in two trim levels – Pure and Luxury – with Luxury priced from £30,505. All models feature a ‘digital-first’ cabin with a 13.2-inch central touchscreen, Android and Apple mirroring and app-based remote controls as standard. Also standard is a six-speaker Sony sound system and the physics-defying 540-degree panoramic view camera.

Luxury specification adds a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated electrically adjustable front seats, wireless phone charging, multi-coloured ambient lighting, and an upgrade to an eight-speaker Sony stereo.

Like virtually every new car on sale, the E5 boasts level 2 driver assistance with 19 functions and, more unusually, a pet mode climate system to keep four-legged friends comfortable if left alone. You can even buy Jaecoo-branded pet accessories, if you feel the urge.

Orders are open now, with first deliveries expected this October.
