Chelsea tops league for EV-friendly football grounds

Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge has been crowned the UK’s most EV-friendly football stadium in a new study.

As the English Premier League kicks off for the 2025/26 season car retailer Cinch has analysed charger data to identify the grounds with the best charging provision for home and visiting fans.

Stamford Bridge’s position close to the centre of London helps put it in top spot, with 1,012 charging points within two miles of the ground. Based on Cinch’s calculations, that’s enough to provide 90,000 miles’ worth of charging over the 90-minute duration of a match.

Fulham’s Craven Cottage ranks second with a total of 825 chargers nearby. However, it actually outdoes Stamford Bridge for the number of rapid chargers (50kW+) in close proximity. Of those 825 devices, 97 (12% of the total) are high-powered units compared with 91 near Chelsea’s ground.

The top 10 of EV-friendly football grounds is dominated by clubs in and around London, thanks to the concentration of chargers in the capital. After second-place Fulham, Brentford has 618 nearby chargers. Arsenal is close behind on 602 devices while there’s another gap to fifth-place West Ham with 468.

Also making it into the top 10 are Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur alongside Sunderland and Manchester’s two rival teams – United and City.

Manchester United ranked second for rapid charging access behind Fulham, with 92 devices offering 50kW or more – half the total accessible chargers. While Newcastle only placed eighth in terms of rapid chargers, it had the highest proportion of faster devices. A total of 63% of chargers within two miles of St James Park were 50kW or above.

Ben Welham, motoring expert at Cinch, commented: “It’s great to see the areas around Premier League stadiums having so many EV chargers ahead of the new season.

“The top 10 is quite London-centric for now, but with public charging infrastructure improving across the country we expect to see a more balanced picture in the years to come.

“Those rapid chargers will come in extra handy for those hoping to head straight home in their electric cars after a tough result for their team.”

The Cinch research comes hot on the heels of a study by Vauxhall which identified the UK’s most EV-friendly family attractions, with Legoland Windsor claiming the top spot.
