Xpeng launches record-breaking P7+ sports saloon at 2025 Munich motor show

Xpeng has taken the wraps off of its next-gen P7+, which recently set an endurance record for mass-producted EVs after covering a distance of 3,961 kilometres – almost 2,500 miles – in 24 hours.

The Tesla Model 3-rivalling P7+ returns a top speed of 143mph, 585bhp, and 513lb ft of torque. Further technical details surrounding the car were scant, but for reference, the regular Xpeng P7 comes with either a 74.9kWh or a 92.2kWh battery.

Combined with its 800V architecture, higher spec P7s can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes and travel up 358 miles on a single charge.

The P7+’s Munich debut is a showcase of the Chinese manufacturer’s focus on AI-driven tech and intelligent driving systems. As such, it is the world’s first AI-defined car.

Xpeng takes a software defined vehicle (SDV) approach to automotive engineering, and its self-developed AI system serves as the basis for the company’s mobility ecosystem. For context, the ecosystem is not dissimilar to the ones developed by Apple or Google, where everything interlinks seamlessly.

Xpeng’s AI architecture brings together cloud, vehicle, computing power, and hardware. It is supported by central computing and zonal control architecture. Earlier this year, EV Powered visited ZF to go behind the scenes to discover the engineering advantages that SDVs offer to car manufacturers.

Mr. He Xiaopeng, brand CEO and chairman believes pursuing the AI avenue will lead to a closer bond between car and motorist.

“With the next P7, we are demonstrating to users around the world how AI can transform the car into a warm, intelligent companion,” he commented. “It demonstrates our full-stack, self-developed AI capabilities. Xpeng doesn’t just build cars, we are creating smart and sustainable mobility experiences for global users.”

The P7+’s Munich debut predates a Xpeng R&D centre opening in the Bavarian city later this month. The site will be used to tailor its vehicles to local tastes, and assist Xpeng with entrenching itself deeper into the European market.

While Xpeng didn’t give a firm date for the P7+’s European arrival, it used the Munich event to confirm that its Aeroht “Land Aircraft Carrier” – the world’s first modular flying car – will make its maiden flight in Dubai this October. It’s AI-driven ‘Iron’ robot is also expected to launch towards the end of 2025.
