Which way? Polestar introduces own version of GeoGuessr
Polestar has rolled out its own version of the geolocation-based game, GeoGuessr, across its all-electric range.
Named GeoGuessr x Polestar, the game debuted on the Polestar 4’s centrally-mounted 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen. It is, however, also available on the infotainment systems of the Polestar 3 and Polestar 2. GeoGuessr x Polestar can only be played while the car is stopped for charging.
GeoGuessr x Polestar follows the original GeoGuessr format of challenging players to pin-point real-world locations using only visual clues such as road/street signs, geography, and forms of public transport.
There are, however, a couple of twists: GeoGuessr x Polestar encourages drivers to find Europe’s best driving roads, while the game includes the Polestar 4’s digital rear-view mirror at the top of the infotainment screen, displaying the world in reverse. The Polestar-exclusive version also comes with its own Polestar-themed avatar.
The introduction of GeoGuessr x Polestar comes as increasing numbers of EV manufacturers are adding games to their cars’ infotainment systems to while away the time during charging sessions. Volkswagen, Porsche, Tesla, Renault, and Ford are a handful manufacturers who have already done so, with Polestar amongst the latest to join the fold.
Following the GeoGuessr x Polestar announcement, the Swedish EV maker’s CEO, Michael Lohscheller, said: “GeoGuessr and Polestar both celebrate exploration. With [the] Polestar 4’s rear-view mirror built directly into the game, we’ve created a playful link between our technology and one of the world’s most loved digital adventures. It’s the perfect entertainment offer when you are charging your Polestar.”
Daniel Antell, GeoGuessr CEO and co-founded added: “Every driver is using maps, GeoGuessr is turning navigation into a way to explore the world and have fun. That is why teaming up with Polestar feels very natural. It is also great to work with a fellow Swedish global brand.”
To mark the tie-up, Polestar and GeoGuessr are starting a Europe-wide competition alongside the 2025 GeoGuessr World Championship Finals in Copenhagen. The winner will win a trip to Polestar’s HQ in Gothenburg, Sweden, which includes a full test track day with a professional racing driver. The date for the competition start date has yet to be announced.
