Production version of Volkswagen ID 2all concept to be named VW ID Polo
Volkswagen has confirmed that the roadgoing version of its ID 2all concept car will be named the VW ID Polo when it arrives in 2026.
Ahead of next week’s Munich motor show where the ID Polo is scheduled make its public debut, VW boss, Thomas Schäfer, confirmed that the all-electric Polo will be the first VW EV to adopt a name familiar to buyers.
An ID Golf has been confirmed before the decade is out, and on the back of the ID Polo news, it is expected that the ID 4 and ID 7 will go under the respective ID Tiguan and ID Passat names in the future as part of a new EV naming strategy from the Wolfsburg-based carmaker.
The announcement of the ID Polo now gives further credence to the rumour that the production version of the fully-electrified VW ID Every1 city car will be called either the ID Up! or the ID Lupo.
When the ID Polo arrives in early 2026, it will be priced from approximately £22,000 and offered with either a 38kWh battery, or a 56kWh battery offering a range of around 280 miles and fast-charging speeds of up to 125kW.
In Munich, the ID Polo will be shown alongside the ID Cross concept car – an electric version of the VW T-Cross, which is set to arrive towards the end of next year.
Both the ID Polo and ID Cross are part of the VW Group’s ‘Electric Urban Car Family’ and will share their electric architecture, powertrains, and MEB Entry platform with the upcoming Skoda Epiq and Cupra Raval.
A 282bhp Clubsport version of the ID Polo is also in the works, while a 400bhp ID Polo R is rumoured to be under development. If and when it arrives, the hotter of the two ID Polo models is like to be incorporate in-wheel tech from Rimac.
