Volvo expands EX30 range with new Cross Country model

Volvo has expanded its EX30 range with an all-new Cross Country model.

The EX30 Cross Country is a rugged version of the Swedish manufacturer’s first purpose-built EV. It comes with chunky blackened front and rear skidplates and wheel arches, plus a blacked out roof, bootlid, and front grille panel.

The all-wheel-drive EX30 Cross Country is aimed at “weekend explorers” as opposed to hardcore offroaders, and has been raised by 19mm over the standard EX30. According to Volvo, this will allow the car to perform in a variety of weather conditions “from muddy tracks and ankle-deep snow, to highway driving”.

“We launched our first Cross Country car over 25 years ago, and this concept of durable and all-weather cars is core to the Volvo brand,” said Jim Rowan, the CEO of Volvo Cars. “In Sweden we face harsh winters, but we also like to make the most of them by getting out and exploring our amazing nature, even when it’s minus 20 Celsius outside.”

Fitting in with its outdoorsy personality, the EX30 Cross Country has an upgraded five-link rear suspension, 18-inch wheels, and permanent all-wheel drive. As with the standard AWD EX30, the Cross Country is fitted with a 69kWh battery, which drives two motors for a combined 422bhp and 264 miles of range. With a fast charger, the battery can be charged from 10%-80% in 26 minutes.

Inside, the EX30 Cross Country is unchanged and like all recent Volvo models, has its infotainment and navigation systems built around Google OS. The EX30 Cross Country is also only available in range-topping ‘Ultra’ trim.

Volvo offers its first Cross Country-branded SUV with its ‘Cross Country Experience’ accessory pack, featuring 18-inch all-terrain wheels, a load carrier, and a roof basket. Further accessories include 19-inch alloys, a roof-mounted kayak holder, a roof-mounted tent, and a stowable towbar.

“We know that more and more people are seeking ways to get closer to nature,” Rowan continued. “This is why with our new Cross Country Experience, we aim to create an entire ecosystem around those models, supporting our customers as they embrace adventure.”

The Volvo EX30 Cross Country is now available to order in selected markets, with deliveries set for summer 2025. Prices have yet to be confirmed, but are expected to start at around £47,000; a premium of £3,000 over the standard car.
