Tesla opens Supercharger network to other EV models for first time

Tesla has opened its exclusive Supercharger network to other electric vehicles for the first time in a pilot scheme in the Netherlands.

The scheme will be tested at ten different locations across Netherlands, with the announcement revealing that Dutch non-Tesla drivers will be able to make use of the ultra-rapid chargers via the Tesla app.

Tesla drivers can continue to use these stations and the company will closely monitor each site for congestion.

The American manufacturer’s charging network consists of more than 25,000 units worldwide and have long been one of the fastest public chargers available, with the chargers able to add up to 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes.

The network will now be available to any electric vehicle with Combined Charging System (CCS) such as Ford, Volkswagen Group, which includes Porsche and Audi, as well as BMW and Mercedes.

Charging prices for non-Tesla drivers will include extra costs to support a broad range of vehicles and site adjustments to accommodate these vehicles, Reuters reported. Tesla also added that the price to charge can be lowered with a charging membership.

In the announcement, the company said: “This move directly supports our mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.”
