Subaru Uncharted and E-Outback are heading to the UK
Subaru will launch three new electric cars in Europe in the next 12 months, including an updated Solterra and the new Subaru Uncharted.
The Japanese brand has been slow to embrace electric power but now says it will triple its EV offering in Europe and the UK, with the E-Outback completing its new line-up by summer 2026.
Subaru Uncharted
Its new assault on the EV market will be spearheaded by the Subaru Uncharted which will sit beneath the Solterra as a C-segment SUV-coupe.
Behind the six-star badge, the 4.5m-long Uncharted is based on the upcoming Toyota C-HR+ but with a more rugged “Subaru” feel. It sits higher than the Toyota – with 210mm of ground clearance, – and features a smattering of black body cladding and faux skid plates. It also gets a unique front end with a bespoke bumper, grille and lights that closely resemble the facelifted Solterra.
In keeping with the rugged image, the Subaru Uncharted features a 338bhp all-wheel-drive powertrain. The two-motor arrangement can get the Uncharted to 62mph in five seconds and tow up to 1,500kg. A 77kWh battery offers up to 292 miles of range.
There are also two single-motor, front-wheel-drive versions of the Uncharted. The Long-Range variant uses the same 77kWh battery for up to 363 miles of range and comes with a 221bhp motor. Meanwhile the entry-level version gets 165bhp and a 57.7kWh battery good for 276 miles.
Subaru E-Outback
Initially revealed under the Trailseeker name, the E-Outback continues one of Subaru’s most successful nameplates into the electric era. Closely related to the Toyota bZ4X Touring, the e-Outback is a large, rugged estate model featuring a raised ride height and all-wheel drive.
A two-motor powertrain provides the all-wheel-drive character and the E-Outback features a specific X-Mode drive mode selection for difficult surfaces. The two motors produce 375bhp and will get the E-Outback from 0-62mph in an Impreza WRX-shaming 4.4 seconds. A 74.7kWh battery will provide up to 279 miles of range.
The E-Outback is larger than the Solterra and appears destined to sit at the top of Subaru’s EVs line-up. Beneath it, the heavily revised Solterra will arrive in the UK in early 2026.
2026 Subaru Solterra
Like the 2026 Toyota bZ4X on which it’s based, the new Solterra brings a larger battery with better charging, more efficient and powerful motors and a refreshed exterior and interior.
The previous 71.4kWh battery has been replaced with a 73.1kWh unit capable of returning up to 310 miles of range – 21 mile more than before. While peak DC charging remains 150kW, technical revisions means the Solterra now charges at higher speeds for longer and can maintain performance in challenging climates.
New motors boost the Solterra’s power to 33bhp, allowing a 0-62mph time of 5.1 seconds but, perhaps more importantly, doubling towing capacity to 1,500kg.
The Subaru Uncharted and revised Solterra will go on sale in the UK in early 2026, with the E-Outback arriving in the summer. Prices and specifications will be confirmed closer to launch.
