Stansted Airport opens ultra-rapid charging hub
London Stansted Airport has opened a new public charging hub offering ultra-rapid charging en route to and from the airport.
The major new hub, on Thremhall Avenue, the main road into and out of the airport, includes 10 charging bays with twin-outlet Evolt Touch charging units that can provide up to 150kW of power.
Gareth Powell, managing director at London Stansted, said: “We are fully committed to the sustainable and responsible growth of London Stansted, which is why we’re delighted to open our first EV charging hub at the airport.
“This new facility is ideally located so that passengers, commuters, staff, local residents, and businesses passing through can grab a bite to eat and a cup of coffee while recharging their vehicles. Our focus is to continue driving forward on our commitment to reach net zero carbon operations by 2038.”
Lara Navetta, sales director at Evolt Charging, which supported the development of the site and provided the chargers, said: “We pride ourselves on building the best portfolio of charging technology and we know that rapid and ultra-rapid charging is key to the future of EV driving and uptake.
“We’re proud to support London Stansted with the launch of its first rapid EV charging hub, which marks a significant milestone in our shared commitment to sustainable travel.”
The Evolt Touch features a 32-inch touch screen that can display tariff, payment and charging information clearly, with multilingual options. The unit’s two power outlets can provide simultaneous or sequential charging. The latter maximises power availability, allowing the next vehicle in turn to start charging automatically once the vehicle in front has finished.
