Royal Mail to take part in wireless bi-directional charging pilot
Electric Green has announced a collaboration with Royal Mail and QEnergy to demonstrate the advantages of bi-directional wireless charging for their EV fleet.
Delivered by Innovate UK and part of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s V2X Innovation Programme, this partnership will play a pivotal role in decarbonising the UK’s logistics sector to unlock productivity gains, safer working environments and help to deliver net zero.
Electric Green’s wireless charging solution offers a more streamlined, secure, and accessible alternative to traditional plugging-in methods. Removing the need to ‘plug-in’ with cables to charge, the pilot will allow a Royal Mail depot to charge without interrupting normal business operations and then feed power back to the flexibility market to be used on site or sold to the distribution operator.
Electric Green’s unique approach to wireless charging uses innovative Capacitive Transfer System (CTS) technology, to power a wireless solution with no depot ‘furniture’, obstructions or moving parts. Wireless charging is able the accommodate the evolving needs of decarbonised vehicle logistics fleets and, by making it far easier to engage vehicle batteries, will help drive the widespread adoption of vehicle-to-grid power management.
Martin Beaumont, CEO of Electric Green, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating:”We are thrilled to partner with Royal Mail and QEnergy in advancing the future of electric vehicle charging with thanks to Innovate UK.
“We are confident our wireless charging solution will help Royal Mail to not only decarbonise their fleet but drive forward cost-saving efficiencies in their productivity by removing the need to plug-in their vehicle.
“Together with Royal Mail and QEnergy, we aim to make a significant impact on the decarbonisation of the logistics sector and contribute to the electrification of road transport”.
