Rimac Nevera R smashes 0-249mph world record run in just 25 seconds
The Rimac Nevera R has set a new world record by achieving the 0-249mph run in a staggering 25.79 seconds, making it the fastest accelerating production car in automotive history.
The Nevera R’s run was carried out at the Automotoive Testing Papenburg (ATP) facility in Germany, where the standard Nevera set the same record in 2023, with a 29.93 second run. As well as being 4.14s faster than the regular Nevera, the 2,078bhp Nevera R went about re-writing the record books.
The Nevera R reached 0-60mph in just 1.66 seconds, beating the regular 1,888bhp car’s 1.74-second run. It also reached 100 kilometres per hour in just 1.72 seconds compared to the 1.81 seconds of its predecessor. Over the course of the day at the ATP, the Rimac Nevera R set a total of 24 new world records.
Under the skin, the €2.4 million (around £2m) Rimac Nevera R has been thoroughly re-engineered. Its aerodynamics are 10% more efficient than the “regular” Nevera and have been improved to generate 15% more downforce, which Rimac says amounts to 400kg in total.
The new, high-performance Michelin Cup 2 tyres cut understeer by 10% and boost lateral grip by 5%. Moreover, the Nevera R’s all-wheel torque vectoring system has been developed to work in conjuction with the rubber.
The torque vectoring system allows the Nevera R’s quad-motor layout to distribute power to each wheel accordingly, and adjusts delivery 100 times per second to make the best of traction and performance in real-time.
On the back of Rimac’s latest achievement, company founder and CEO, Maté Rimac said: “When we first introduced the Nevera it almost seemed like the pinnacle of hypercar performance had been reached.
“In a single generation, we had created a performance jump that previously would have taken decades. But now, through relentless innovation, Nevera R goes even faster, while still maintaining much of the comfort and practicality that makes the Nevera a real, usable daily car. Breaking records is in our DNA, and we won’t stop here.”
Rimac says it will make just 40 units of the Nevera R, and the Croatian carmaker has brought one to the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed. In 2023, the regular Nevera set the hillclimb record for production cars in with a time of 49.32 seconds.
After being toppled last year, Rimac will be seeking to re-establish itself at the top of the time sheets. In addition to its latest record-breaking achievement, the Rimac Nevera R received a Red Dot Award for Product Design just a handful of days ago.
