Omoda E5 updated with 267 mile range and faster charging
Omoda has introduced a raft of changes to its all-electric E5 SUV for the 2025 model year.
The biggest update to the Omoda E5 is the addition of a 61kWh battery with improved energy density, extending range from 257 miles to 267 miles on a single charge.
DC fast charging capability has also been improved, thanks to a new charging rate of 130kW – a significant jump from the 80kW of the previous generation car. Omoda’s answer to the likes of the Volvo EX30, Kia EV3, and Hyundai Kona Electric now also benefits from the addition of a standard heat pump to maximise range in colder weather.
Like its internal combustion-engined sibling, the Omoda 5, the E5 has undergone chassis updates to appeal to keener drivers. The front suspension geometry on both cars has been revised and paired with a new electric steering setup.
New wheel hubs and bearings have been introduced to improve handling, while updated brake linings are aimed at building on the Omoda 5 and E5’s Euro NCAP five-star safety rating.
On sale now, the updated Omoda E5 is priced from £33,065 for the entry-level Knight model, and £34,565 for the range-topping Noble. Both come with a seven-year/100,000-mile warranty, along with an eight-year warranty on the battery. RAC’s Home Start breakdown cover comes as part of the vehicle’s purchase.
In terms of equipment, the Omoda E5 is well-equipped. Standard kit includes twin driver and infotainment displays measuring 12.5 inches each, wireless phone charging, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. An air purification system, a 360-degree surround view camera, plus electrically-adjustable driver and passenger seats are also included.
Omoda is owned by Chinese automotive giant, Chery. Since its arrival in 2024, the brand has embarked on an aggressive expansion strategy and aims to have more than 80 retailers operating across the country by the end of this year. Chery is also poised to launch the Tiggo 8 plug-in hybrid SUV under the Chery brand in September.
