Ohme becomes official EV home charging partner to Suzuki as new e Vitara arrives

Suzuki has chosen Ohme to be its official EV home charging partner to coincide with the arrival of the Japanese brand’s new e Vitara, its first ever all-electric car.

The e Vitara compact SUV is aimed at the likes of the Skoda Elroq and the Kia EV3. When order books opened earlier this month, it was priced from £29,995 for the entry-level Motion model, which comes with a 49kWh battery and front wheel-drive.

Go further up the range, and the range-topping Ultra Allgrip-e gets a range 61kWh battery paired with a 4WD system. Pricing starts at £37,799.

The partnership will see Suzuki recommend Ohme chargers to buyers who need a home charger, with wallboxes on display in Suzuki dealers. Ohme is also including a free Ohme wallbox and its installation with any e Vitara order placed before September 30 this year.

As part of this deal, Ohme will give buyers who order before the September cut off point 10,000 miles worth of free home charging credit, roughly half the amount of miles the average UK motorist covers over the course of a year.

Considering the e Vitara is entering a highly-competitive segment, Suzuki acknowledges the weight its debut EV carries. With that in mind, Suzuki UK director, Dave Kateley, said: “As Suzuki’s first ever electric car, the introduction of e Vitara will be crucial for us in the UK and our partnership with Ohme will play an important part in that car’s success.”

Ohme’s dynamic EV chargers use live data from the grid and are compatible with the UK’s best and most affordable energy tariffs, which can reach as low as 5p per kilowatt hour. Ohme chargers automatically adjust to optimise the cost of charging and accessing all the times of the smartest, greenest, and lowest cost energy tariffs as well as featuring a solar boost function reducing reliance on the grid.

David Watson, Ohme CEO added: “I’m delighted to announce this new collaboration with Suzuki. With Suzuki’s expertise in the four-wheel drive market, the e Vitara is a great choice for those wanting to combine 4×4 technology with electric motoring. We’re looking forward to introducing Suzuki’s customers to the benefits of dynamic charging and supporting its dealer network.”

By combining a dynamic EV home charging tariff with an Ohme charger, fully charging a two wheel-drive Suzuki e Vitara with the 61kWh battery and a 264 mile range could cost as little as £4.27 during off-peak hours.

Ohme has similar partnership deals in the UK with several other carmakers including Smart, Polestar, the Volkswagen Group, and Hyundai.
