Kia Vision Meta Turismo EV concept hints at all-electric future Stinger
Kia’s Vision Meta Turismo concept appears to be an all-electric successor to its Stinger performance saloon.
The South Korean carmaker has shared images of a sleek new four-door concept on social media, declaring “the future awaits in shadows. Our vision takes shape soon.”
There are no solid details beyond the Vision Meta Turismo EV’s gnomic declaration, but we do know that Kia has been looking at a potential GT successor to the Stinger in order to further elevate the brand’s public perception. We also know that Kia’s focus is heavily on EVs, including performance models such as the EV4 GT, EV6 GT and EV9 GT.
Images of the concept car back up the idea of an all-electric model with a short bonnet and cab-forward design wouldn’t be possible with a traditional combustion engine.
The Kia Meta Turismo concept uses the slimline Starmap light motif of Kia’s other EVs and takes it to extremes, with thin slashes high up on the front wings running into camera-based wing mirrors.
A huge windscreen stretches halfway back across the roof, and is split from an equally large rear glass panel by a V-shaped band running across the roof from A pillar to A pillar. At the rear, there’s a kammtail shape similar to the recently launched EV4 fastback.
The preview images don’t give much away about the interior, but they appear to show a steering yoke in place of a traditional wheel. That suggests Kia is experimenting with steer-by-wire systems similar to the Lexus RZ’s.
It seems clear that Kia is planning a production version of the concept and that it will act as a halo product for the brand. That’s likely to mean performance to match or exceed any of its current GT models. Expect all-wheel-drive, at least 641bhp and tricks such as simulated gear shifts and perhaps even a drift mode.
Following Kia’s odd/even naming convention, the new model could be called the EV8 and is likely to sit alongside the EV9 GT at the pinnacle of Kia’s EV line-up.
