Kia EV2 – first pictures and details of Kia’s smallest EV
The Kia EV2 has been revealed for the first time, promising to bring class-leading space and almost 300 miles of range to the B-SUV segment.
Kia’s smallest EV to date, the EV2 will go wheel-to-wheel with the likes of the Renault 4, Ford Puma Gen-E and the upcoming Skoda Epiq when it goes on sale in spring this year.
Kia says its compact crossover will offer 278 miles of range, high-tech features and class-leading rear space, and will be versatile enough to act as most families’ primary car.
The EV2 has been designed specifically for the European market and will be built at Kia’s Žilina plant in Slovakia, where the EV4 hatchback is also produced. Production begins in February with the standard range model, followed by the long range variant in June.
There’s no confirmed on-sale date for the UK and pricing is being kept under wraps, but we’d expect a starting price of under £25,000 to keep competitive in this tough segment.
The EV2 will initially go on sale in standard-range guise, with a 42.2kWh battery providing up to 197 miles of range. From the middle of 2026, a long-range model will introduce a 61kWh battery providing a class-leading 278 miles of range. Kia hasn’t confirmed motor power, but we’d guess it will be in the region of 150-170bhp, in line with most rivals.
DC charging rates are also still to be confirmed but Kia says the EV2 will go from 10-80% in under 30 minutes and will support 22kW AC charging as standard – a first for the brand.
At around 4m long, the EV2 is shorter than the Renault 4 or Ford Puma Gen-E and around the same length as the Jeep Avenger, but offers an impressive 2.56m wheelbase.
Unusually, the EV2 will be sold in four- and five-seat configurations. Both versions offer sliding and reclining rear seats to deliver between 885mm and 958mm of rear legroom, which Kia claims is the best in class. With the seats in their forward-most position, the EV2 provides 403 litres of boot space, complemented by a 15-litre cable storage area under the bonnet.
In the cabin, the EV2 makes extensive use of recycled and sustainable materials, including carpets and felts made from recycled fishing net materials, and plant-derived plastics. The interior design has been inspired by a picnic box to be logical and user friendly.
As with Kia’s other EVs, the EV2 features a three-screen array with 12.3-inch instrument and infotainment screens either side of a 5.3-inch climate control cluster. However, in order to keep costs down, the system runs a “light” version of Kia’s operating system with more limited features.
The EV2 still brings many of the advanced features of larger Kias. Depending on trim level, these include automated plug and charge capability, vehicle-to-load charging, highway driving assist 2.0 and a phone-based digital key. It is also the only car in its class to feature remote parking controlled from outside the vehicle.
Visually, the EV2 takes design cues from its larger SUV stablemates – the EV3, EV5 and EV9 – with a similar boxy and upright look. Pronounced body lines and cladded wheel arches are intended to give the compact crossover a rugged look, while vertical running lights with the Star Map signature give a modern “face” and connect it with other Kia models.
As with other Kia EVs, a GT-Line spec sprinkles some sporty design elements, with high-gloss trim accents, a bespoke bumper/grille design and unique 19-inch wheels. Other variants will be offered with wheels ranging from 16 to 19 inches.
“The Kia EV2 represents a significant step in making electric mobility accessible to a broader audience”, said Soohang Chang, president and CEO of Kia Europe.
“As our most compact EV, it blends bold design with cutting-edge advancements in charging, connectivity, and safety. Building the EV2 in Slovakia reinforces our commitment to Europe and ensures this model reflects the needs and expectations of drivers across the continent.”
