Generational rolls out EV battery health tech across the UK to drive buyer confidence
Generational has announced that it will introduce its latest electric vehicle battery health tech across Motorpoint’s UK dealer network and two dedicated preparation sites.
The tie-up comes after Motorpoint trialled the battery health specialist’s newest tech on 1,500 used fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles across its 21 UK dealerships.
Following the scheme, Motorpoint’s stock returned an average battery health percentage of 96.6%, and 97% of its stock achieved an SoH (State of Health) score above 90%. Meanwhile, 36% of electrified vehicles tested scored over 99%.
Moreover, Generational has found that used EVs with a battery health certificate sell on average one week quicker than those without – 43.1 days to 50.4 days.
Battery health checks, such as those carried out by Generational, scrutinise a battery’s usable capacity and compare its current capacity to when it was brand new. They also provide a guide on the real-world range a buyer can expect, and can highlight potential faults within a battery pack.
The process is carried out by attaching a compact device to the vehicle’s on-board diagnostics (OBD) port, which extracts battery health data and securely analyses it against manufacturer standards and Generational’s EV battery database. The check is finished within a matter of minutes.
As it seeks to encourage motorists to make the switch from petrol and diesel to electric, Motorpoint will only retail EVs with a battery health rating of ‘very good’ or higher.
On the back of the partnership, Generational CEO, Oliver Philpott, said: “Battery health is fast becoming the new mileage in the EV era. Buyers want clarity and confidence, and our technology enables industry-leading retailers like Motorpoint to deliver that in minutes.
“The results speak for themselves; vehicles with verified battery health data are selling much faster on average. It’s proof that transparency empowers customers and drives stronger business performance, so we’re thrilled to see Motorpoint leading the way in making battery health data standard across the UK’s used EV market.”
Chris Ainsworth, head of preparation at Motorpoint, added: “With more motorists making the move to electric, we wanted to give car buyers the reassurance they’re looking for when opting for a battery-powered vehicle. Generational’s testing solution offers accurate, transparent and data-driven battery health information that’s easy for customers to understand – which ultimately helps them buy with confidence.”
