FIA ecoRally Cup returns to Scotland in 2026

Scotland will once again host a round of the FIA ecoRally Cup as the EV-only competition returns to Tayside in 2026.

From August 1 to 2 international teams will compete across more than 300 miles of specially selected on-road stages. The event first took place on July 26-27 year, making it the first FIA event to take place in Scotland for 14 years. It was won overall by reigning champions Michael Žďárský and Jakub Nábělek in their Hyundai Kona Electric.

In Category Two, the Alpine A290 of French pairing, Emmanuel Guigou Emilien le Borgne, took the class victory. In the National class, the Honda e:Ny1 shared between James Hotles and Iain Tullie claimed top spot.

As in 2025, Dundee will host the Scottish round of the FIA ecoRally Cup. The UNESCO City of Design was chosen to hold the event thanks to its EV-friendly credentials. One of the UK’s leading cities for EVs, 34% of all fleet vehicles are electric and complimented by an extensive charging network. Dundee City Council is also playing a key in trying to deliver Scotland’s promise of being net-zero by 2045.

The Scottish round of the 2026 FIA ecoRally Cup is supported by Motorsport UK, and the organisation’s technical director, Ian Smith, was fully supportive of ecoRally Cup’s return to Scotland.

“Motorsport UK is thrilled to have ecoRally within our events calendar,” he said. “Part of our remit is the promotion of an ‘eclectic’ approach to motorsport, and this event does just that, with the stellar range of electric marques competing during 2025.

“We would encourage anyone looking to enjoy an alternative type of motorsport, with Scotland providing a beautiful backdrop, to join us next summer.”

British rally driver and the event’s clerk of the course, Richard Crozier, added: “Here in Scotland we are blessed with access to so many great roads, the event was about the showcasing of EV, and of Scotland.

“We are thrilled to have the 2026 event in the calendar and look forward to welcoming even more teams to Dundee next summer.”

Unlike a regular rally, ecoRally is for unmodified all-electric and hybrid vehicles. Unlike regular rallying or with its focus on getting from point-to-point in the quickest time possible, EcoRally competitors are instead scored on their speed and energy efficiency.

Teams are also required to record all check points within the given times and complete ‘regularity tests’ checking their average speed along the route, with points awarded for precision navigating, problem solving, and teamwork.

The 2025 ecoRally Cup has been held since 2022, with the 2025 season held across 14 rounds in Europe and Asia. As well as Hyundai, Alpine, and Honda, other participating manufacturers include Škoda and Omoda.
