F1 ‘flavour’ Alpine A290 EV makes UK debut at F1 75 launch event in London
The all-electric Alpine A290 made its UK debut at the F1 75 Live launch event at the O2 in London. Upon arrival, the all-electric hot hatch was driven by Alpine F1 driver, Pierre Gasly.
The Alpine A290 has five trim levels: the entry level GT and GT Premium with 174bhp and 210lb ft of torque, or the GT Performance and GTS, which produce 217bhp with 221lb ft of torque.
A limited ‘Premiere Edition’ of the A290 producing 217bhp with 221lb ft of torque will also be available. Its production run of 1,955 units is a nod to the year Alpine was founded by Jean Redele.
Like its sister car, the Renault 5, the Alpine A290 was a prize winner at the prestigious European Car of the Year awards in 2025.
Unlike the Renault 5, the Alpine A290 gets a sport-tuned chassis, multilink rear suspension, hydraulic bump stops, plus exclusive Brembo brake calipers and Michelin Pilot Sport tyres.
Taking inspiration from Alpine’s F1 team, the A290 gets an F1-inspired steering wheel, a driver-focused ‘Feel at One’ cockpit, and an overtake button that provides the driver with 10 seconds worth of additional power.
“I felt right at home in the A290, because it brings a little bit of the flavour of F1 to the roads, with details like its F1-inspired overtake button and regenerative braking force dial on the steering wheel,” said Gasly. “F1 is a magical sport, and this is a road car that brings some of that magic to everyday driving. It’s small, fast and fun – the first true hot hatch for the electric age.”
Across the board, the Alpine A290 comes with a 52kWh battery offering rapid charging from 15-80 per cent in 30 minutes. The 174bhp A290 provides 236 miles of WLTP range, whilst the more powerful 217bhp returns 226 miles.
UK pricing for the Alpine A290 starts from £33,500 OTR, while a 2.9% APR representative PCP finance offer makes a GT model available from £345 per month based on a £5,054 customer deposit at 6,000 miles per-year.
