Milence opens its first UK eHGV charging hub
The UK’s electric HGV sector has been given a boost with the opening of Milence’s first eHGV charging hub in Lincolnshire.
The Immingham hub on the A180 has been built into the Able Humber Port site and aims to provide ultra-rapid charging along one of the key logistic routes between the UK and Europe.
The first phase of the programme has seen four high-powered CCS chargers activated, offering up to 400kW charging to eight dedicated HGV bays. A second phase will see more powerful MCS chargers installed offering up to 1,000kW charging.
Milence is a joint venture between HGV giants Daimler Truck, Traton Group, and Volvo Group, and aims to roll out a network of more than 1,700 eHGV chargers across the UK and Europe by 2027.
Anja van Niersen, CEO of Milence, commented: “The opening of our first UK charge hub in Immingham marks a significant step in the UK’s transition to electric road transport.
“This strategically located site underscores our commitment to providing reliable and accessible charging infrastructure for the growing number of electric truck operators. This is just the first step in our UK expansion, and we are dedicated to working with all stakeholders to accelerate the shift towards a sustainable future for the transport industry.”
The Immingham hub has been developed specifically for trucks and their drivers and features secure, fenced parking, access control, camera surveillance, and essential amenities such as restrooms and vending machines.
Peter Stephenson, founder and executive chairman of AHP, added: “The Milence charging hub at Able Humber Port is a vital asset in our drive towards decarbonising port operations and the wider region. We are proud to partner with Milence in this important initiative, which represents a significant advancement for sustainable transport in the UK.”
The opening comes in the wake of news that motorway service station operator Moto plans to install up to 300 eHGV charging bays at its sites by 2030.
