Lamborghini-driving TikTokers carry out Tesla Cybertruck vigilantism in the US
A group of Lamborghini-driving TikTokers have launched a guerrilla anti-Tesla campaign targeting the brand’s infamous Cybertruck.
The group, calling themselves @cybertruck_hunters are driving around various cities in the United States, projecting anti-Elon Musk and anti-Tesla Cybertruck messages onto the stainless steel tailgates of the electric pick-up. The divisive vehicle’s occupants are presumably none the wiser.
Slogans include “Musk sold me this sh*tbox,” “MuSSk,” and “Tons of hype. Underwhelming in bed.” The person working the projector wears a Jack Skellington mask from The Nightmare Before Christmas.
For Tesla Cybertruck owners, possibly the most damning slogan is “The most recalled truck in 2024” slogan, reflecting the thousands of Cybertrucks recalled last year after accelerator pedals were getting trapped by interior trim and jamming. The Tesla Cybertruck went on sale in the United States in 2023, four years after it was announced.
Controversy surrounding the Tesla Cybertruck isn’t just restricted to the US. Earlier this year, Greater Manchester police seized a Cybertruck as the vehicle “is not road-legal in the UK and does not hold a certificate of conformity.” Its fate is currently unknown.
The Cybertruck has not been tested to the UK’s safety standards, and is unlikely to pass them due to its many sharp angles and lack of pedestrian protection.
Since the Cybertruck Hunters accounts were started on TikTok and Instagram in mid-February 2025, both have amassed a total of 33.7k and 4,865 followers respectively.
The viral campaign is proving to be yet another thorn in the side of the American EV manufacturer. Since its CEO, Elon Musk, aligned himself with President Donald Trump as well as the right-wing Reform and AfD parties in the UK and Germany, sales of Teslas have halved in Europe, while almost 60% of UK EV buyers have been put off of the brand due to Musk’s political affiliations. Tesla has also been hit by EU tariffs on its vehicles produced at its Gigafctory in Shanghai.
