Andersen and Tap Electric partner to make money from home EV charging

EV charge point brand Andersen has teamed up with Tap Electric to help EV home charger owners to share and monetise their charging points.

The collaboration lets EV owners with Andersen home chargers make their charge points available to EV drivers via the Tap Electric app.

To generate income via their charger, Andersen customers are required to register for a Tap Electric account, list their charger on the Tap Electric network, then set their own prices. Tap Electric will manage the payments and transfers earnings to the host’s account each month. Prices are usually charged via a flat hourly rate or a per-kilowatt hour rate.

Tap Electric integration is available on both residential and commercial properties. Andersen chargers compatible with Tap Electric are the latest Andersen Quartz and Andersen A3 models, offering charging speeds of up to 22kW and 7kW respectively. The 7kW Anderson A2 is also compatible.

Following its latest collaboration, Andersen chief executive, David Martell said: “This partnership with Tap Electric marks an exciting next step for Andersen.

“By enabling our customers to earn from their charge points, we’re expanding the possibilities of home EV charging, transforming it from a private utility into a smart business opportunity.

“It also means that Andersen’s chargers are now a viable solution for a wider range of settings, including businesses, boutique hotels, Airbnb properties and much more.”

Tap Electric isn’t the first platform to give EV charge point owners the opportunity to generate a passive income. Peer-to-peer networks such as Co Charger, Zap-Home, and GoPlugable also offer similar services.

As well as earning money, the idea behind P2P charging is to make EV ownership more accessible and cheaper for those without a home charger. It also provides piece of mind for those with home charge points that their charger is being used when they are away from home.
