2024 Vauxhall Grandland offers 435-mile EV option

Vauxhall has revealed that its next-generation Grandland will arrive later this year as a fully electrified line-up, including a 435-mile pure EV.

Based on the same modular platform as Peugeot e-3008 and e-5008, the Grandland BEV will pack a 98kWh battery offering up to 435 miles of range and feature 160kW DC charging to add 70% charge in less than half an hour.

Vauxhall hasn’t confirmed the rest of the powertrain specs but we’d expect it to follow the same pattern as the e-5008. That comes with a choice of single motor variants offering 207bhp or 227bhp, or a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive option with 316bhp. It also features a 73kWh battery option, which Vauxhall is likely to offer with the lower powered motor.

A plug-in hybrid with a 53-mile EV range and a 48V mild hybrid option will also be available.

The new Grandland is 17cm longer and 6cm wider than the outgoing model and carries over several design features from the Vauxhall Experimental concept of 2023. Among these are a 3D illuminated take on the Vizor ‘face’ with a light-up Vauxhall badge, flanked by 50,000-element adaptive LED headlights. The illuminated features continue at the rear with the Vauxhall name picked out in lights across the upright tailgate.

The larger body and longer wheelbase mean the new Grandland is more spacious than before, with 2cm more rear legroom and a host of new storage spaces, offering up to 35 litres of stowage. The boot is 550 litres, expanding to 1,641 litres with the rear seats folded.

Among new interior design features are a fabric finish and ‘edge light’ ambient lighting on the two-level dashboard. The Grandland also ditches the current one-piece Pure Panel display in favour of a more streamline setup. A 10-inch digital instrument panel is supplemented by a head-up display while the infotainment system is housed in a 16-inch central touchscreen. Beneath that, Vauxhall has retained physical controls for the air conditioning.

The Grandland is equipped with frequency selective damping for a smoother ride and comes with a suite of driver aids as standard, ranging from adaptive cruise control to in-crash braking. An extended ADAS package also bring semi-autonomous lane changing for the first time.

The new Grandland will arrive in the UK this autumn with pricing announced closer to the launch date. Its unveiling comes hot on the heels of the new Frontera and means that by later this year, every model in the Vauxhall range will feature an all-electric option.
