The 31-year-old Auckland-born driver has become one of the biggest talents in Formula E since he got behind the wheel of the Jaguar team.
After coming agonisingly close to a world title on several occasions, the 2025/26 season may well define how history remembers Evans.
His determination to remain with Jaguar, despite a year marred by mechanical setbacks and bad luck, speaks volumes about the bond he has with the team that gave him his Formula E debut in 2016.
“It’s not been purely based on performance,” he said. “We’ve had some technical issues when we’ve been in decent positions on the track. But, compared to the last two seasons, we’ve not quite headed the way that we would have liked.
“I think we’ve also had just tremendous bad luck this year, and, in any sport, you need a little bit of luck to go your way. So, we need to just keep evolving and finding the right performance window for our new car.”
Cassidy Hoping to Lead Citroen to Glory in Debut Season
Cassidy raised plenty of eyebrows when he decided to join Citroen ahead of the upcoming campaign as part of a wider Stellantis Motorsport project.
He will also drive under Peugeot’s banner in the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship.
While the talented New Zealand driver is still getting up to speed with his new team, he has one eye firmly fixed on challenging for titles this season.
When the FIA World Endurance Championship kicks off in 2026, it will be four years since Cassidy got a taste of motorsport racing action outside of Formula E.
The last time he veered off course and into a new competition for a full season was in 2022, when the Kiwi star drove under Ferrari’s banner in both the WEC’s GTE-Am class and the DTM for AF Corse.
Cassidy previously spent five years racing in Japan, where he demonstrated his driving skills by winning the SUPER GT title in 2017. He also bagged the Super Formula crown two years later with Toyota.
He has the necessary experience to be competitive in Formula E in 2025/26. Like his compatriot, the Auckland-born driver is looking to end his long wait for the Formula E championship, although there are still aspects of his game that need ironing out.
Racing fans in New Zealand will be hoping that one of Evans or Cassidy becomes the first driver to bring the championship back to the country. Next season could be a defining moment in their respective careers.
