Porsche 911-rivalling Denza Z set for 2026 UK debut
The all-electric Denza Z is set to arrive in the UK in 2026 as part of the BYD-owned luxury brand’s debut model blitz.
The two-door Denza Z was unveiled as a concept at the Auto Shanghai show earlier this year, and is aimed squarely at the likes of the Mercedes-AMG GT XX and top-spec versions of the Porsche 911.
Denza confirmed that the Z will be a fully software-defined vehicle with by-wire steering, braking, drivetrain, and suspension. It will also benefit from a magnetic field-powered “agnetorheological Body Control System” to improve ride quality at cruising speeds and provide sharper cornering and more stable braking.
While an official top speed is unknown, we know that the Denza Z is capable of blasting from 0-62mph in just 2.7 seconds, and will share its platform with the upcoming Denza Z9 GT – the brand’s shooting brake riposte to the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo. The latter car has been confirmed with a tri-motor setup producing 952bhp, and can serve as an indication of what to expect from the Z in terms of power output.
Denza has, however, confirmed that the Z will be able to drift, drive semi-autonomously, and tank-turn on the spot in a way not dissimilar to the electric Mercedes G-Class.
BYD also verified that the Z – meaning ‘Zenith’ to denote its position as Denza’s flagship car – will come with a ‘flash charging’ system, which allows for up to 1,000kW of charging power. That could add the equivalent of 250 miles of range in just five minutes. For reference, the Z9 comes with a 100kW battery returning a 391-mile range.
Ahead of its UK debut at next year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Denza Z has been spied testing at the Nürburgring. Pricing is some way off, but it is expected to be announced at FoS 2026. As well as the Z and Z9, Denza is set to launch an additional two models in the UK. These are expected to be the luxury D9 MPV, and the Toyota Land Cruiser-rivalling B5 SUV.
BYD chief CEO, Stella Li, also hinted that the Z may undergo a name change when it hits the UK market.
