Pod partners with Zapmap to make public charging payments easier

Charge point operator Pod has paired with Zapmap to simplify payments for motorists using its Pod Point public charging network.

Pod Point covers around 10% of the UK’s public charging sessions, and Zapmap users can now easily pay for charging within the Zapmap app at over 5,000 Pod Point charge sites across 1,500 locations in the UK.

Pod Point is the latest CPO to join the 40+ networks already integrated into the Zapmap app, which allows motorists to view their charging history, receive live status updates, and download receipts to track their spending on public charging.

By adding a credit or debit card to their Zapmap account, EV drivers can avoid having to use different payment methods across different charge point operators. Apple Pay and Google Pay are also compatible with Zapmap.

On the back of the partnership, Pod Point’s chief operations officer, Barry Adley commented: “We are thrilled to partner with Zapmap to enhance the charging experience on our public network by giving drivers a new way to pay, testament to our mission to make driving an EV easy and accessible for all. This collaboration brings together two longstanding pioneers in EV charging, giving drivers trust and confidence that they have access to reliable charging when they need it on the go.”

Matt Lloyd, Zapmap’s head of CPO networks added: “Integrating Pod’s network into Zapmap’s pay functionality is a great result for both current and future EV drivers, delivering straightforward and accessible payment across one of the most extensive and widely used charging networks in the country. Destination charging is a vital part of the charging mix, with Pod delivering charging opportunities for people to charge as they go about their daily lives.”

Pod Point’s charging costs will vary depending on location. Slow 7kW chargers in Tesco supermarket carparks are priced at around 44p per kWh, while rapid chargers returning speeds of over 50kW can cost anywhere from 60p to 80p/kWh.
