MG celebrates sale of 100,000th EV in the UK
MG has hit the milestone of having delivered its 100,000th vehicle in the UK.
In 2019, MG launched its first UK-ready EV, the MG ZS. Other all-electric MG models that have since joined the fold are the award-winning MG4, the MGS5 EV, plus the MG IM5 and IM6 – the SAIC-owned brand’s answer to the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y.
MG’s flagship product, the Cyberster, was added to the line-up in 2023 and is the UK’s first all-electric two-seat convertible. Its best-selling EV is the MG4, which was its best-selling EV in 2023.
On the back of its 100k achievement, MG’s UK commercial director, Guy Pigounakis, said: “We’re proud that MG has played a meaningful role in driving the growth of electric mobility in the UK and supporting the nation’s Net Zero ambitions.
“Reaching 100,000 EV sales is a major achievement for our brand and a reflection of the trust our customers place in us. We will continue to expand our line-up with even more choice, even more value, and advanced technology that makes electric driving accessible to all.”
At the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed, MG unveiled its moody Cyberster Black and its Cyber X SUV as a nod to its future plans.
At 4.3 metres long, the Cyber X SUV is roughly the same length as the Land Rover Defender 90. Should it make it to market in either late 2026 or early 2027 as rumoured, this all-electric two-box crossover will sit beneath the slightly larger MGS5 EV in the brand’s hierarchy. Perhaps most importantly, it looks have incorporated pop-up headlights into its squared-off design.
As MG seeks to push into more premium territory, it is said to be considering developing its ‘Cyber’ range as a premium sub-brands not dissimilar to what Toyota has done with Lexus, or Hyundai has done with Genesis.
MG’s future plans are said to include a facelifted MG4 and a cheap A-segment EV rivalling the likes of the new Renault Twingo, the Dacia Spring, the Citroen e-C3, and the BYD Dolphin Surf. Set to go on sale next year, MG’s city car will be called the MG2.
