Nissan will reveal its new electric city car later this month as it revives the Nissan Pixo name.
The new Nissan Pixo will sit below the brand’s Micra supermini in its expanding EV line and is set to go on sale in 2027 priced under £20,000.
The Pixo marks Nissan’s return to the A-segment and the brand says it will bring a new and more accessible way into electric motoring.
The Japanese marque claims that the Pixo has been created for urban life and combines compact dimensions with “intuitive technology and distinctive Nissan design”.
The Pixo will be built in Europe alongside the Renault Twingo, with which it shares most of its DNA. It follows the Micra and Leaf, which also both share their underpinnings with Renault models as part of the long-standing partnership between the two brands.
While it is likely to share some design characteristics with the Twingo, Nissan’s promise of distinctive design and the use of 1980s-style pixel graphics in a teaser video suggest the new Pixo could look to the past for its design inspiration.
Nissan hasn’t confirmed technical details for the new Pixo yet, but it is likely to use the same powertrain as the Twingo. That means a 27.5kWh battery offering up to 160 miles of range, and an 80bhp motor also shared with the upcoming second-generation Dacia Spring.
With a growing pool of rivals on the way, including the VW ID.1 and Kia EV1, the Pixo is expected to be priced from around £17,000 when it goes on sale in the UK later next year.
The Pixo name is the latest title to be revived by Nissan, following the Micra and Leaf. Nissan UK boss James Taylor told EV Powered that using familiar names made business sense. He said: “In my personal view, there is always a lot of benefit in reusing historic nameplates, because you’ve already got that customer consideration.”
