Xpeng G6 goes on sale with sub-£40k price tag

Xpeng has officially launched in the UK, opening pre-orders for its G6 SUV as well as showing off its eVTOL X ‘flying car’.

The G6 is a mid-size SUV intended to challenge the segment-leading Tesla Model Y as well as alternatives such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Skoda Enyaq and Volkswagen ID.4. Prices for the new model start at £39,990 and customer deliveries are expected to start in March.

The G6 offers up to 354 miles of range, courtesy of an 87.5kWh battery in the £44,990 Long Range variant. The long range model also gets 280kW charging and a rear-mounted 281bhp motor that offers a 0-62mph time of 6.2 seconds.

The cheaper Standard Range car uses a 66kWh battery for a range of 270 miles, and a 254bhp motor good for 0-62mph in 6.6 seconds. DC charging also drops to a still respectable 215kW.

The powertrains are the only difference between the cars, with every version featuring 20-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic roof, heated front and rear seats, a 15-inch central touchscreen with wireless Android and Apple connections, and a 360-degree surround-view camera. A heat pump is also standard on both models.

The G6 was one of several cars showcased at the brand’s official launch in London. Alongside the ‘Ultra Smart Coupe SUV’, Xpeng displayed the G9 ‘Ultra Intelligent Flagship SUV’, and the P7+, which the brand describes as the world’s first AI-defined vehicle.

Xpeng UK launch line-up

It also showed off the eVTOL X – a compact electric aircraft developed by Xpeng subsidiary AeroHT. The eVTOL X has previously been shown alongside the radical Land Aircraft Carrier, a six-wheeled transporter based on the G9.

Xpeng plans to open 20 dealerships around the UK in 2025 in partnership with importer International Motors Ltd (IML).

“Our launch in the UK, in partnership with International Motors Ltd (IML), marks a significant step in Xpeng’s European and global expansion,” said Dr. Brian Gu, vice chairman and president of Xpeng. “We are excited to bring a new era of smarter, more sustainable mobility to the UK market and globally. With Xpeng’s cutting-edge proprietary technology – ranging from futuristic design and impressive range to ultra-fast charging – we are confident that our vehicles will resonate with UK consumers, offering exceptional quality, innovation, and an outstanding driving experience.”

William Brown, Managing Director of IML, added: “We take great pride in partnering with an innovative brand like Xpeng. Together, we are committed to shaping the future of electric mobility by providing market-leading vehicles and services. And we can’t wait to start our exciting journey with Xpeng,” says

Xpeng’s expansion into the UK builds on the brand’s presence in Europe, where it now operates in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal and Ireland.
