Volvo discounts EX30 range by £1,500 amidst Government ECG delay

Volvo has discounted its all-electric compact EX30 SUV by £1,500 across the board while the UK Government decides which manufacturers will count for its Electric Car Grant (ECG).

The Government has yet to announce the carmakers that will be eligible for the ECG, which reduces the price of a brand new EV from £1,500 to £3,750. Amidst the delay, several brands including Hyundai, Renault, Vauxhall, and Leapmotor, with Volvo the latest to join the fold.

The addition of the £1,500 discount means that the entry-level Volvo EX30 Core can now be purchased for £31,560, the mid-tier Plus is available from £33,660, and the flagship Ultra is priced at £41,860.

Volvo’s price reductions are not just limited to the EX30. The rugged EX30 Cross Country with its ruff ‘n tumble black cladding also benefits from the £1,500 price cut, bringing the price down to £45,560. Meanwhile, Volvo has axed the cost of its ageing, all-electric EX40 and EC40 by £1,500 and £2,000 respectively.

In light of its self-funded grant, Volvo UK’s commercial director, Rob Deane, said: “The multi award-winning Volvo EX30 is a fantastic product, which doesn’t compromise between design, safety or sustainability, and we are delighted to be able to offer this enhanced EV offer for Volvo customers.”

“It is fantastic to see a strong surge in media attention and customer demand towards EV ownership since the Government’s announcement.”

The Volvo EX30 is the brand’s smallest, all-electric SUV. Built using recycled materials and a dedicated all-electric Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform developed by parent company Geely, the EX30 boasts the lowest CO₂ footprint of any Volvo to date with just 23 tonnes emitted during its lifespan, the equivalent of 200,000 miles.

Since it announced its commitment to EVs, Volvo has focused heavily on sustainability. Its full-sized luxury saloon, the ES90 also emits a smaller carbon footprint than the EX40 and EC40, as well as the S90 it replaces.
