Volkswagen to reveal £25,000 ID.2X EV crossover in September

Volkswagen will debut its ID.2X all-electric crossover at the Munich motorshow – IAA Mobility – in September this year.

The ID.2X will act as VW’s electrified answer to its existing T-Cross, and will reportedly cost a Renault 4-rivalling £25,000 when it goes on sale in 2026.

In line with its name, the ID.2X will be a more rugged, higher-riding version of its electric ID.2 supermini, which will arrive later in 2025. Several unconfirmed reports suggest that the ID.2 may go by the ID.Polo name when it goes on sale.

Both the ID.2 and the ID.2X will be built on a modified version of the VW Group’s ubiquitous bespoke electric MEB architecture shared with the upcoming Cupra Raval and Skoda Epiq. When they come to production, all four cars will be built in Spain.

Like the ID.Every1 city car concept VW revealed last week, the ID2.X incorporates several design cues from various ID. cars including the roof spoiler and grille-mounted light bar taken from the ID.2all concept, plus three horizontal slats on the C-Pillar mirroring those on the ID.Buzz minivan.

VW has already confirmed that the ID.2 will be available with a choice of either a 38kWh battery or a 58kWh unit. The larger of the two is expected to return up to 280 miles of range from a single charge, while 125kW fast-charging will give the car a 10% – 80% top up in less than 30 minutes. The ID.2 is expected to have the same batteries and charging time.

The ID.2 is expected to cost around £20,000 when it arrives, while the smaller, ID.Every1 is said to come with a £17,000 price tag. When it comes to market in 2027, the ID.Every1 is expected to serve as the all-electric replacement for the now-discontinued VW e-Up!
