smart cuts cost of all-electric UK range by up to £3,500
smart is the latest car manufacturer in the UK to launch its own £1,500 ‘smart EV car grant’, cutting the price of its current range by up to £3,500.
Following the UK Government’s announcement of its Electric Car Grant (ECG), several manufacturers have moved to announce their own price cuts as the adminstration decides which brands are eligible for the grant and those that are not. Despite the ECG being made public on July 14, carmakers are still left in the dark, with industry experts suggesting that it sparks more more questions rather than inspires confidence.
Renault and Vauxhall have announced their own version of the electric car grant, as have several Chinese-owned carmakers including GWM, Leapmotor, and Volvo. Like Volvo, smart is owned by Chinese automotive giant, Geely, who is the parent company off several other well-known European car brands including Polestar and Lotus.
The entire smart line-up is fully-electric. Currently, the smallest car in the range, the smart #1 is already available with a £2,000 EV price cut. Factor in the £1,500 smart EV car grant, and its price is reduced by a total of £3,500 to £26,460 for the entry-level Pure trim.

With the £1,500 discount applied and base £2,000 price cut, the award-winning smart #3 is priced from £30,460. Meanwhile, smart has whether to confirm whether its Tesla Model Y-rivalling #5 SUV will be eligible for its in-house grant when it arrives in autumn this year.
Jason Allbut, smart UK CEO commented: “In line with our commitment to opening minds toward electric mobility, our #1 and #3 already offer exceptional value for money.
“This initiative will provide customers in the market for a new car with immediate confidence in their access to smart’s most competitive prices, avoiding leaving buyers in limbo while the industry adapts to evolving external influences.
“We’re very proud of the fact that smart’s award-winning EV range unites the best of premium design and cutting-edge technology.”
