Skoda teases electric Octavia in new Vision O video
Skoda has given a first glimpse of its Vision O concept car which is widely tipped to preview a new all-electric Octavia.
A new teaser video and photograph show the silhouetted outline of a large estate car which Skoda says previews its future in a segment where it has enjoyed huge success.
The Vision O will make its full debut at the Munich motor show on September 8 and is expected to give a clear indication of the size and style of the next-generation Octavia EV, due to launch within the next three years.
The Vision O embraces and develops Skoda’s Modern Solid design language already in use on the Elroq and Enyaq, but maintains links to Skoda’s existing successful estate range.
The new video and image show a curved bonnet line similar to that on the Elroq and a sloping roofline that dips down to a raked tailgate with a split roof spoiler. Slimline taillights form a narrow T shape and, in keeping with Skoda’s current approach, the brand name is spelled out across the rear panel.
Oliver Stefani, Skoda’s head of design, said the new look blended emotional appeal with practical design. He noted: “With Vision O, we are consistently advancing our ‘Modern Solid’ design language, boosting its emotional appeal and further refining our brand identity.
“New design concept also highlights our commitment to pushing boundaries and continuously bringing innovation to future automotive design. Clear lines emphasise simplicity, showcasing totally that we remain true to our brand values. Vision O is extremely practical for everyday use and brings surprising and thoughtful details.”
Skoda has been producing estate cars since the 1920s and the Octavia estate has been among its biggest successes. Klaus Zellmer, the Czech brand’s CEO, said: “The Skoda Vision O design study will highlight the future trajectory of estate models under the influence of new technologies, sustainability, and the deep experience of Skoda Auto in this segment. This will be one of our most significant steps in developing and evolving our design language even further for this period of transition in the automotive industry.
“It will position us to remain a major player in the estate segment, where Skoda Auto has been engaged since the 1920s.”
Technical details are still under wraps but it is believed that electric Octavia will use the Volkswagen Group’s new SSP platform rather than the existing MEB architecture that underpins its current EVs.
Before the electric Octavia Skoda will launch two more all-electric models. The Epiq will be launched in 2026 as a compact urban crossover to sit alongside the Cupra Raval and VW ID.2. After that, the production version of the Vision 7S will arrive offering an all-electric seven-seat alternative to the existing Kodiaq.
