PlayStation-ready Afeela SUV targets Lucid and Rivian following CES 2026 arrival
Afeela, the dedicated joint-electric car venture created by Sony and Honda, revealed a “pre-production” version of its upcoming SUV at the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week.
Planned for a 2028 launch in the United States, the still-unnamed SUV promises to be a taller, more spacious version of the upcoming Afeela 1 saloon. Both cars share the same wrap-around light bars front and rear, the same raked roofline, and a similar minimalist aesthetic.
Both cars will also be built at the Honda plant in East Liberty, Ohio, with the SUV packing the same footprint as its lower-riding sibling.

Measuring up at just under five metres long and a little over three metres wide, the Afeela SUV squares up to the likes of the Lucid Gravity and Rivian R1S in its domestic market. Should Sony and Honda decide to bring the Afeela brand to Europe, all-electric rivals would include the BMW iX, the Volvo EX90, and the upcoming Audi Q9.
Afeela has not confirmed any technical details about its SUV, but it is expected to adopt the same underpinnings as the Afeela 1. This translates to a 482bhp twin-motor layout, paired with a 91kWh lithium-ion battery returning a 300-mile range, and a rapid charge speed of up to 150kW.
With Honda responsible for the bulk of the technical side of things, Sony handles the technology and UX. The Afeela 1 and the SUV will come with a robotics-based posture control system to optimise ride height, and Level 2+ autonomous driving.

Afeela also promises a highly-customisable user interface, and a novel ‘Media Bar’ between the headlights, which can be modified to display everything from messages to other motorists and pedestrians, to the vehicle’s state of charge when parked.
PS Remote Play is also part of Afeela’s tech suite, meaning users can access their PlayStation 4 or PS5 remotely from their car. Gran Turismo fans and fellow ’90s kids rejoice.
Pricing for Afeela’s SUV has yet to be announced, but for reference, the Afeela 1 will start at $102,900 (around £76,300), when it hits showrooms late this year. A cheaper, $89,900 model will follow in 2027. Given the SUV’s extra dimensions, expect it to come with a heftier price tag.
