New Skoda Elroq SE L brings cheaper big-battery option

Skoda has launched a new version of its Elroq SUV, allowing buyers to access the model’s largest battery for less, at the same time as securing approval for the UK Electric Car Grant.

Named the Skoda Elroq SE L 85, the newest addition to the Elroq family comes with an 77kWh battery – the largest in the Elroq range, offering a range of up to 355 miles. The Elroq SE L 85‘s battery has a maximum fast-charging speed of 175kW, allowing it to be charged from 10% to 80% in around 28 minutes.

Previously, the larger battery was only available in the more expensive Edition 85 and Sportline 85 grades, with prices starting at £38,660 on-the-road. The new SE L 85 starts at £37,060 OTR.

However, its price has been reduced further with confirmation that the Elroq and larger Enyaq have been approved for the UK Government’s Electric Car Grant. That means customers can save a further £1,500, cutting the Elroq SE L 85’s on-the-road price to £35,560.

Courtesy of the ECG, the Skoda Elroq now starts from £30,210 for the entry-level SE 50 model, which packs a 52kWh battery and a 233-mile range. With the ECG applied, the most expensive eligible Elroq is the £40,110 SportLine 85.

The performance-focused Skoda Elroq vRS does not qualify for the ECG, meaning its base OTR remains unchanged at £46,560.

Like the Elroq, certain trim levels of the larger, all-electric Enyaq SUV qualify for the £1,500 ECG. When applied, the SE L 60 starts from £37,510 OTR, while the Edition 60 begins at £38,610. Like the Elroq, the recently-introduced Skoda Enyaq vRS is exempt, along with all Enyaq Coupe models.

Regarding the arrival of the Skoda Elroq SE L and Enyaq price cuts, the Czech carmaker’s UK head, Matthew Bowden, said: “We are delighted to confirm that our award-winning models qualify for the Government’s Electric Car Grant.

“At Skoda, our commitment has always been to put our customers at the heart of everything we do – designing cars that meet their evolving needs and expectations. This initiative allows even more people to experience our innovative all-electric range, and reflects our ongoing journey towards becoming a more sustainable brand.”

Since the arrival of both the Enyaq in 2021 and the Elroq earlier this year, both cars have won critical acclaim, scooping numerous awards such as Car of the Year, Best Value Electric Car, and Best Family Electric SUV.
