New single-motor Volvo EX90 gets almost 400-mile range and £14k price cut
Volvo has introduced a new, single-motor version of its all-electric EX90 SUV.
This rear-wheel drive model is available to order now, and starts at £82,660; almost £14,000 less than the previous cheapest model, which was all-wheel drive and twin motor only.
The EX90 with its rear axle-mounted single motor produces 276bhp, 361 lb ft of torque, and a 0-62mph time in 8.4 seconds. Like all Volvo EV models, its top speed is capped at 112 mph in the name of safety.
Despite having a smaller 100kWh battery than the 107kWh units found in more expensive versions of the Volvo EX90, the RWD will return 380 miles on a single charge; 16 more than its AWD sibling with its 364 mile range. Nonetheless, the RWD EX90 can still be charged with speeds up to 250kW as-per the rest of the line-up.
Across the EX90 line-up, Volvo has also ushered in a new entry-level, comfort-focused ‘Plus’ trim. It comes with four-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a head-up display, a 14.5-inch touchscreen control system, and 360-degree parking. Twin motor versions, however, benefit from an air suspension and adaptive dampers for additional comfort.

This latest raft of updates rolled out by the Swedish manufacturer were not just exclusive to its all-electric flagship SUV. It announced that its EX30 Cross Country crossover will be priced from £47,060 when it goes on sale later this year.
Meanwhile, the EC40 and EX40 will receive an 82kWh battery to replace their previous 78kWh unit. The change results in an increased range of 360 miles (from 346) for the former, and 358 miles (previously 343) for the latter. The EC40 and EX40 EVs will also benefit from its new Qualcomm-based infotainment. This Snapdragon Cockpit Platform is said to give the user faster response speeds, and quicker graphics generation than the outgoing system.
Volvo’s newer all-electric models, the EX30, EX90, and upcoming ES90, already have the Qualcomm infotainment system integrated.
