Leapmotor B10 makes European debut

Leapmotor has revealed details of its new C-SUV competitor, the B10, ahead of its imminent arrival in Europe.

The Leapmotor B10 is the first car in Leapmotor’s B-Series and will go on sale in 30 countries and regions around the world, including Europe and the UK.

Positioned below the larger C10, the B10 will take a similar value-focused approach as the rest of the Leapmotor range and is expected to be priced from around £30,000 putting it in competition with cars an entire class smaller.

Closely related to the B05 hatchback, which got its world premier at the Munich motor show, the B10 uses a 215bhp front-mounted motor delivering a 0-62mph time of 8 seconds and a top speed of 105mph.

It comes with two battery options, although some markets will only get one specification. Basic Pro models use a 56.2kWh battery with a maximum range of 224 miles, while the ProMax version uses a 67.1kWh battery for up to 270 miles. Those distances put the B10 on a par with compact SUVs such as the Toyota Urban Cruiser and Jeep Avenger rather than the 350-mile+ capabilities of C-SUV rivals such as the Renault Scenic and Ford Explorer.

At 4.51m by 1.88m, the B10 is similar in size to the Scenic and Explorer but Leapmotor says its EV architecture allows it to offer one of the biggest passenger compartments in the class. It also says the B10 will offer 22 separate storage compartments, fully reclining front seats and a panoramic sunroof as standard. It features a 14.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen with Apple and Android mirroring, with drivers expected to manage every function in the car via the screen.

Leapmotor has detailed two trim grades for the B10. The Life version comes with 18’-inch alloy wheels, 360-degree parking camera, the huge screen, a panoramic sunroof and an ADAS package with 17 functions. Design trim adds eco “leather” seats, ambient lighting and heated, ventilated and electrically adjustable front seats.

The UK is set to get a single specification with a single powertrain option. It’s not clear yet which powertrain that will be or whether the trim level will match either of the European grade. Details will be confirmed in the coming months when orders open. First UK deliveries are expected before the end of the year.
