Jolt lands Greenwich EV charger deal

Advert-supported charging network Jolt will boost charger access in the Royal Borough of Greenwich after signing a new partnership with the local council.

The new deal will see Jolt deliver 30 new chargers throughout the borough as part of a 15-year deal with the council.

Jolt estimates that in some parts of London, up to two-thirds of homes lack a driveway, leaving many residents reliant on public charging.

Using public charging inevitably costs more than charging at a domestic energy rate but Jolt claims it can save drivers up to £960 a year through its discounted ad-support system.

Its chargers feature massive 75-inch digital screens which can be used to display adverts, local notices and other public information. Revenue from the screens is then used to subsidise charging costs for drivers. Jolt also offers 7kWh of free charging per day for customers.

John Rainford, UK country manager at Jolt, said: “The UK has a two-tier system for EV drivers, and it’s especially evident in London. If you can charge at home, going electric saves money. But if you’re relying on public charging – like millions of Londoners – you’re often paying a pavement premium.

“We’re providing South East London residents with the same opportunity as North London that makes running an EV accessible, whether you’ve got access to home charging or not. This isn’t just about charging cars, it’s about making London’s shift to clean transport fair for everyone.”
