Hyundai Ioniq 2 EV set for Munich motor show debut
The Hyundai Ioniq 2 EV is set to make its debut at the 2025 Munich motor show in September as an affordable crossover rival to the Renault 4.
Upon its unveiling at next month’s Munich motor show, the Hyundai Ioniq 2 EV is expected to sit above the all-electric Inster city car and alongside the Kona Electric. However, some industry insiders have touted the Ioniq 2 to replace the latter fully.
When it goes on sale in the third quarter of 2026, the Ioniq 2 will be built on the same scalable E-GMP platform as its sister car, the Kia EV2, which is anticipated to hit the market a few months prior. The E-GMP platform is used on all EVs found in the Hyundai Motor Group, which is made up of Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis.

Both the Hyundai Ioniq 2 and the Kia EV2 are set to share the 58.3kWh or 81.4kWh battery used in the slight larger Kia EV3, which return 267 miles and 372 miles from a single charge respectively. Across the range, the Kia EV3 is powered by a single electric motor sending 201bhp and 209lb ft of torque through the front wheels. The Ioniq 2 is expected to produce the same amount of power.

In terms of styling, the Hyundai Ioniq 2 EV has been spied in testing as a raised hatchback and a raked coupé-esque roofline. Up front, it is expected to mirror the recently-updated Ioniq 6, with slim LED headlights and a futuristic, tech-focused front end.
Inside, the Ioniq 2 EV is expected to mirror the cabin of the current Ioniq line-up comprising the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, and Ioniq 9.
The Hyundai Ioniq 2 is Hyundai’s first purpose-built, all-electric crossover. Expected to be priced from around £25,000, it should slot firmly into Renault 4, VW ID.2X, and Skoda Epiq territory.
