Honda to unveil two 0 Series EV prototypes at CES 2025
Honda will reveal prototypes of its next-generation 0 Series electric cars in the coming weeks.
The Japanese car maker will reveal two models at the CES 2025 technology show in Las Vegas on Tuesday 7 January, giving a clearer indication of its future EV models.
The new unveiling comes a year after it exhibited two 0 Series concept cars – a saloon and a people carrier – at CES 2024. The company will also showcase its new in-house developed vehicle operating system which will power the 0 Series cars.
Honda has struggled with its initial EV offering but hopes that the 0 Series cars will mark a leap forward. They are based on an entirely new dedicated EV platform and embrace a philosophy of ‘thin, light, wise’ that aims to maximise space and range, while bringing new levels of driver assistance.
The two prototypes – expected to be updated versions of the Saloon and Space Hub – will be the first in a line-up of seven 0 Series EVs the company plans to launch by 2030. The first two models will go on sale in 2026.
Technical details of the new platform are vague at the moment but Honda says it will use all-new battery and motor systems designed to be smaller, lighter and more efficient than its previous technology. It will also feature drive-by-wire systems to cut down on heavy mechanical components, and feature ‘megacasting’ to cut the number of parts in the battery casing.
Honda is targeting a range of around 300 miles for the saloon and battery degradation of less than 10% over 10 years. It says the new batteries will be flexible and scalable, allowing it to create different sized packs for different vehicles.
