Ford Puma Gen-E price, range and specification revealed

Ford has officially unveiled the all-electric version of its best-selling Puma compact SUV.

The Ford Puma Gen-E is on sale now and is set to do battle with the Fiat 600e, Jeep Avenger, Vauxhall Mokka and Kia EV3, offering up to 233 miles of range and class-leading storage.

The Gen-E sits alongside the best-selling petrol-hybrid Puma, and joins the Mustang Mach-E, Explorer and Capri plus multiple Transit variants in Ford’s growing EV range.

Priced from £29,995, it is Ford’s most affordable electric model to date.

Visually, the Ford Puma Gen-E is instantly recognisable. The only major differences between it and the petrol car are a smooth new ‘shield’ in place of the gaping trapezoidal grille, a larger tailgate spoiler and new alloy wheel designs. There’s also the option of an EV-only and very eye-catching Electric Yellow paint job.

The interior is largely the same as the recently updated petrol model, too, although the Gen-E does get a unique raised centre console with low-level storage, a wireless phone charger and sliding armrest. A 12.8-inch digital display handles the instruments, while there’s a 12-inch central touchscreen mounted low in the dashboard.

Thanks to the EV powertrain layout the Gen-E expands the regular Puma’s boot space. The existing ‘Megabox’ – a large underfloor storage space – has almost doubled in size to become the ‘Gigabox’ , meaning the Puma Gen-E offers up to 574 litres of luggage space – far more than any rival – plus a 43-litre frunk.

The Puma Gen-E is powered by a 166bhp motor which, as with the petrol car, drives the front wheels. Standstill to 62mph should take 8 seconds – 1.6 seconds quicker than the standard hybrid model but 1.3 slower than the sporty ST.

A 43kWh battery offers a range of 233 miles, which is slightly less than its Stellantis rivals and a long way behind the likes of the Kia EV3 and Skoda Elroq. DC charging is capped at a competitive 100kW, which should allow a 10-80% top-up in around 23 minutes, or a 95-mile boost in just five.

The UK is getting two versions of the Ford Puma Gen-E – Select and Premium trims. All cars feature the two large digital displays with latest Sync4 OS, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a reversing camera and ADAS including wrong way alert and speed sign recognition.

The Premium, which costs £31,995, gets 18-inch alloys in place of 17s, matrix adaptive LED headlights, a hands-free powered tailgate and a B&O premium sound system, plus synthetic leather upholstery.

Orders for the Ford Puma Gen-E are open now, with the first UK deliveries expected in spring 2025.
