Ford offers free home charger and 10,000 miles of charging with new power promise

Ford has launched a new ‘power promise’ promotion that aims to address some of the key concerns around EV ownership.

The Ford Power Promise includes a free home charger and installation for anyone buying a Ford electric car, plus the equivalent of 10,000 miles of home charging credit via Octopus Energy.

The offer applies to Ford’s entire passenger vehicle range, including the Mustang Mach-E, Explorer and Capri EVs, and soon-to-arrive Puma Gen-E – an all-electric version of its best-selling compact SUV. It also applies to the E-Tourneo Custom and E-Tourneo Courier van-based MPVs.

Customers signing up for the power promise deal will get an Ohme home wallbox and standard installation worth £899, plus a £217 credit to their Octopus energy account. This equates to 10,000 miles worth of charging at the 7p/kWh tariff offered on the flexible Octopus Intelligent Go tariff supported by the charger.

The move comes after a Ford survey of 5,000 drivers found that a quarter felt uncertain about purchasing an EV. One in eight were worried about problems fitting a home charger, and a third thought EVs took too long to charge. A similar proportion express worries about battery longevity.

To address this last concern, Ford also confirmed that as part of its power promise, all its EVs come with an eight-year/100,000-mile battery warranty, as well as a free five-year service plan.

Lisa Brankin, managing director of Ford UK, said: “Switching into an electric vehicle for the first time can be a daunting prospect for some drivers, so Ford have decided to simplify and de-stress the entire ownership experience by launching a one-of-a-kind promise to new electric car buyers.

“This commitment from Ford aims to entice new buyers into the exciting world of electric vehicles and stimulate additional demand for our freshest-ever lineup of electric passenger cars.”

Alex Schoch, Director of Flexibility, Octopus Energy, added: “With every electric car that takes the road, we’re getting closer to zero emissions transport – but to reach the finish line, we need to make green driving cheap and accessible. Working together with Ford, we’re able to create a compelling incentive for drivers to make the switch to electric, saving their pocket and the planet at the same time.”

While the power promise only applies to passenger cars, Ford Pro is still offering van buyers a connected wallbox and installation for just £10 when they purchase any of the electric Transit family.
