Cue the pearl clutching: Everatti transforms Ford GT40 into a EV with ‘Any Shape’ battery

EV restomod specialists Everatti have teamed up with battery and engineering firm Raeon to turn the iconic Ford GT40 fully electric with an innovative new ‘Any Shape’ battery.

Raeon’s Any Shape battery allows an all-electric restomod’s battery to be manufactured in any form to integrate organically with the car’s original layout.

Any Shape also decouples design and manufacture from cell technology, allowing the adoption of the latest cell technology at any point during the vehicle’s design and during production.

In the case of the GT40 EV, the battery is a 62.5kWh unit promising 200 miles of range and 150kW fast charging, meaning it can be charged from 20% to 80% in around 20 minutes.

Everatti says that the Any Shape battery will maximise the 800bhp GT40 EV’s energy storage and retain the balanced drive of the original, which won the 24 Hours of Le Mans four consecutive times from 1966 to 1969.

To keep the internal combustion-engined GT40’s spirit alive, Everatti has given its zero-emissions replica two speakers producing up to 110 decibels-worth of simulated V8 sound, not dissimilar to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6 N. Like the South Korean twins, there are ‘virtual gears’ which provide a brief pause in the engine note and torque delivery when up and down-shifting.

Founded in 2019 by now-CEO Jason Lunny, Everatti aims to preserve the spirit of classic cars but future-proof them with all-electric drivetrains. Thus far, Everatti has electrified a number of models including the Porsche 964, the Range Rover Classic, and the Mercedes SL Pagoda.

Lunny’s outlook on electrifying the GT40 is no different.

“At Everrati, our mission is to redefine the world’s most iconic cars with sustainable, high-performance electric powertrains,” he said. “The GT40 is a true legend. Through our partnership with Raeon, we’ve been able to honour its soul while preparing it for the future.”

Tom Brooks, Raeom COO added: “By combining low-tooling requirements with advanced simulation and a generative design pipeline, we can move to production with 90% fewer physical tests, accelerating time to market while maintaining exceptional quality.”
