At large: Hyundai Staria Electric MPV weighs in with nine seats and 250-mile range

Hyundai has taken the wraps off its all-electric Staria MPV at the Brussels Motor Show, focusing on “space and charging speed, comfort and zero emissions.”

Eclipsing even the huge Ioniq 9 for heft, the futuristic-looking Staria is the biggest model in Hyundai’s EV range, offering between seven and nine seats and what appears to be an option for two recliners in the middle row.

The Seoul-based carmaker has not issued any official details on charging power, but we do know that the Staria Electric is built on Hyundai’s highly regarded 800V Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) it uses across its Ioniq range.

For reference, the Ioniq 9 can support charging speeds of up to 233kW using a 350kW rapid charger, meaning the battery can be topped up from 10 to 80% in a mere 24 minutes.

Upon arrival, the VW ID. Buzz and Kia PV5-rivalling Staria Electric will be available with just one battery option, an 84kWh unit capable of covering 248 miles on a single charge. In terms of power, the 5.2-metre-long MPV is driven by a single 214bhp electric motor.

Hyundai promises that the Staria Electric has a two-tonne towing capacity, and comes with vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, meaning the car can be used to power items such as e-bikes, camping gear, and even a house during a power outage.

Pricing has yet to be confirmed for the Staria Electric, but it is expected to be close to the Ioniq 9, putting it at a significant premium over its ICE sibling, which starts at around £19,000 on home turf in South Korea. Hyundai says that the Staria Electric is UK-bound, but hasn’t set an arrival date.

The Staria Electric wasn’t the only big Hyundai news to come out of Brussels. It confirmed that its C-segment answer to the likes of the Peugeot E-308 and its Kia EV4 twin will be called the Hyundai Ioniq 3 when it arrives later this year.

Like the EV4, the Ioniq 3 is expected to come with either a 58.4kWh battery or an 81.4kWh unit, with the latter capable of up to over 350 miles on a single charge.
